Getting Started

What is Clara?

Clara is an AI-powered contract review assistant for lawyers and legal teams. Upload contracts you didn't draft and get risk analysis, key term extraction, and plain-language summaries in about 60 seconds. Clara runs on 100% EU-owned infrastructure (Scaleway and Mistral AI), so your data stays outside US CLOUD Act reach.

Creating your account

  1. Go to clara.legal and click Sign up.
  2. Enter your email and choose a password.
  3. Verify your email using the link we send you.
  4. You're in. You can upload your first contract from the dashboard.

New accounts start on a trial with 3 documents. No credit card required.

Uploading your first contract

From the dashboard, drag and drop a PDF or DOCX file (up to 50 MB), or click to browse. Clara accepts NDAs, service agreements, employment contracts, and similar agreements. The document is uploaded to our EU-hosted storage and processed in two steps: a quick scan, then an optional full analysis.

Understanding your analysis results

After analysis you'll see a Summary (overview, parties, key terms, risk assessment), Risks (high, medium, and low with quoted text and recommendations), Terms (extracted key terms such as dates, termination, liability, governing law), Deadlines (dates and notice periods with calendar export), and Obligations (an interactive checklist of who must do what). Use Document chat to ask follow-up questions about the contract.

Quick start walkthrough

  1. Sign up and verify your email.
  2. Upload a contract (PDF or DOCX).
  3. When the quick scan finishes, choose which party you represent and any focus areas.
  4. Run the full analysis.
  5. Review the tabs (Summary, Risks, Terms, Deadlines, Obligations) and use chat if you need more detail.
  6. Export a PDF report (Professional/Firm) or copy sections to your notes as needed.

That's it. You can create folders, search documents, and manage your account from the main app.
